Who is Doug Rogers?

Doug Rogers has spent much of his life on the rails, both literally and figuratively. After nearly three decades with Rocky Mountaineer, he turned his stories and lessons into books that reflect his journey, his insights, and his passion for people. Writing has become his way of passing along the humor, heart, and wisdom that come from a lifetime of experiences in hospitality, leadership, and retirement.

His first memoir, A LIFE OUT LOUD: Tracks Worn by Time and Tales, opens the door to his personal story. It blends prairie childhood memories, career milestones, and the human side of tourism into a collection of short stories that resonates with readers who value authenticity and connection.

That collection grew into something more reflective in RETIREMENT INSIGHTS, a thoughtful take on stepping into the next chapter of life. Written for fellow baby boomers and those who follow thereafter, it captures the surprises, challenges, and satisfactions of leaving the workforce while still seeking purpose, creativity, and joy.

His third book, NORTH of OPINION: A Canadian’s Take on a Changing World, tackles a different track altogether. It is Doug’s editorial voice, focused on democracy, division, and the shifting landscape of our times, told from a Canadian lens. It brings the same conversational tone and reflective style, only now with extensive detail that applies to the bigger questions of society and leadership.

Most recently, Doug released FIVE TRACKS of LEADERSHIP: Principles for Building Trust, Inspiring Teams and Leaving a Legacy. Drawing on decades of management and mentorship in tourism and hospitality, this book is both a guide and a story. It lays out a framework for leadership that is accessible, practical, and deeply human.

Together these four books form a journey. From the memories of growing up and building a career, to reflecting on retirement, to engaging with the wider world, and finally to passing on the principles of leadership, Doug’s writing continues to explore what it means to live with purpose and connection.

If you are looking for stories, lessons, or inspiration, order the book that speaks to you today, or pick up all four to enjoy the full journey.

More about Doug:

I originally hail from Canada’s prairie province of Saskatchewan, and now call Vancouver, British Columbia, home. Retired, I enjoy the good life on Canada’s west coast. I am all about promoting Canadian sovereignty and talking about all things Canadian. I like to think of myself as a grassroots conversationalist. Even a budding photographer and self-proclaimed expert in whatever the topic of the day is.

After a rewarding career in Tourism and Hospitality, I love to showcase Canada to the world. Most recently, I have a keen eye on the political scene and opinions on pretty much everything. I invite you to join the conversation.
