Hey there, fellow Canadians and friends from the US and around the globe,
Sometimes you just have to speak up. Our beliefs and our country matter too much to stay silent now. What is going on between Canada and the United States affects us all – on both sides of the border!
OK, so here’s the scoop: The current US President is making some pretty tough threats towards Canada, Mexico, and a bunch of other nations. It might seem distant or not too serious, but trust me, the impact is huge. This isn’t just about tariffs—it’s about standing up for our freedom, culture, and pride as Canadians. This is about Canada being a sovereign country and whether we allow another country to just come in and take over. We can’t just sit back and wait. It’s time to get loud and make our voices heard.
I love being Canadian. Our landscapes? Absolutely stunning. Our heritage? Rich and diverse. In February, we celebrated Canada’s Flag Day—a perfect moment to reflect on what our flag represents: unity, dreams, and the contributions of every Canadian.
My own story ties deeply to Canada. In the 1920s, my grandparents made their way here from Southern Russia and Persia in the Middle East. Canada welcomed them with open arms, offering a new life and endless possibilities. Their immigration journey is a beautiful testament to Canada’s spirit of compassion and inclusion—a spirit that defines us all. Remember, most of us have ancestry that originates from outside of Canada.

So, Canada’s Flag Day is more than a date on the calendar; it’s a day to honor the Canadian flag that binds us all. It’s about celebrating our values, achievements, and the ongoing quest to make the world better.
We Canadians have a remarkable legacy of innovation. Did you know we’re responsible for some of the world’s greatest inventions? From Dr. John Hopps’ pacemaker to Sir Frederick Banting and Charles Best’s life-saving insulin, we’ve made lasting impacts. Alexander Graham Bell gave us the telephone, and the Canadarm has been vital in space exploration.
And let’s not forget our cultural contributions. We invented ice hockey, developed the IMAX format, and created the snowmobile. Our athletes and artists, like Celine Dion and Wayne Gretzky, have wowed the world.
So let’s come together and celebrate what it means to be Canadian. Let’s honor our flag and remember those who’ve shaped our history. We’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with our American allies, sharing the longest undefended border. We’ve come too far to let anything divide us.
We face some real challenges now. And while we have no ill will towards our American neighbours, we need to stand firm against the current US President’s disruptive tactics. Good neighbors respect and understand each other, and right now President Trump is not being a good neighbour.
Canada will never become a US state. We cherish our sovereignty and will fight to keep our identity. Our unity and resilience are our strengths.
Let’s start by supporting our own—buy Canadian, travel within our borders, and help our economy thrive. And to our American friends, and anyone else reading this: Come visit Canada. Bypass the US and enjoy Canadian hospitality, marvel at Canada’s majestic scenery, and dive into our vibrant cultures. You’ll love it here!
Thanks for listening. Let’s make some noise together! Doug
